Event ReviewThis month we saved our pennies for a trip to Hammersmith Apollo for a night of beauty, music, long queues, over priced booze and of course a technical hitch or two. This could only be the Miss Movie 2002 competition. So how was it????????? Totty - Yes loads, I mean it is a beauty contest after all! Pendus - A few who entertained us during the event (no I dont mean Harbhajan Mann) Booze - Yes quite a bit of it depends how deep your wallet was Punga - Nope , well I didn't see any fights! Bhangra - Ya man!!!! . Here's the low down. The actual event was held at the Hammersmith Apollo, which it self is a pretty good venue. As we walked in through main doors, one could feel this was gonna be something different! The show it self was the a beauty contest that was quite heavily advertised in Sony Entertainment Television. The competition was a straight forward beauty contest split through various stages with question and answers from the hosts. Talking of which the show organisers pulled off a coup as the got hold of Yukta Mookey and Michael Greco (Beppe from Eastenders) who were both very good and interacted with the crowd. The models who were from all over the UK, looked wonderful on stage, and one could tell they were enjoying every minute of their new found fame. Unfortunately remembering their names is always going to be a mission, as they were mainly know as numbers, (a big hello to number 4 from my mate!!!). Apart from the models there was a load of totty that kept every bloke in the auditorium gagging for the After party boogie so they could strut their stuff and pull (well that was the plan anyway!) It was a good event, it was also a bit pricey so most of the idiots kept away, more about the after party in a bit. In the mean time here's the round up of what was good and what wasn't. The contest was great, with a good interactive crowd without too many lewd comments helped the show. The hosts were also very good, and improvised when things went belly up. The bands, well DCS were although good in what they performed their choice of tunes were a let down, all slow numbers. There was a band from Norway who had a fan base of 2 I think as it was only two people in the auditorium that clapped them on, strictly euro trash I'm afraid. Harbhajan Mann the shows final act was brilliant even though he seemed to be miming. His tunes got everyone in the auditorium ready in the mood for the VIP afterparty! The cock-ups? yeah there were a few, like in the final round before the selections were being made the sound system died oh dear, and the bloke responsible for Harbhajan Mann's music messed up the tune order too!! oh dear again!!! Now the After Party, hormones and body language pointed all those with After Party tickets to go across the road to Novotel Hotel and boogie on down. This was the perfect opportunity to mingle dance, and take advantage of the looks you got from someone of the opposite sex! The queues were pathetic and there was no crowd control, but once inside it was time to PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great music from the Ambassadors of Sound kept us all boogieing away till the early hours of the morning. The contestants who strutted their stuff on the stage boogied on with friends, and wanna be friends!! (Big shout to Number 4 again from my mate!) it was an excellant party except.........the booze! Any drink from the bar was £3.50 a go, that included beers, spirits, but worse was it included water, coke and any other soft drink too! Overall an excellent but quite expensive night!! Cannot wait till the next one! |
